Phil and Phil vs. Horror: Daylight (VIDEO)
We’re (finally) back with another episode of Phil and Phil vs. Horror, in which Phil Owen and I play horror games (somewhat badly) and freak out over their scares.
In the latest episode, we step into Daylight, the upcoming procedurally generated horror title by Zombie Studios. It’s a first-person game in which players are near-weaponless and have to stumble around in a dark hospital, trying to figure out what happened to the people who once populated it. Oh, and there’s a scary ghost lady.
What’s interesting so far about Daylight is that you’ll never work through the same map twice, because the layout of the hospital changes each time the game is loaded. Mazes are a big theme in the game, and players have to explore their way through each new area to find “remnants,” which are particular notes and other information, which can then be used to unlock “sigils” from specific places. You take the sigil to a gate that opens the next area, and weird supernatural stuff happens along the way.
Of course, the more stuff you find, the more the ghost wants to kill you. So there’s that.
Daylight hits Steam and Playstation 4 on Tuesday, April 29, and we’ll have a full review then as well. In the meantime, though, you can get a load of the first section of the game, with more Phil and Phil vs. Horror episodes on the way as we explore deeper into Daylight’s mysteries.
