Pillars of Eternity’s Backer Beta Date Confirmed
Pillars of Eternity was one of the major Kickstarter successes of 2012, asking for the sum of $1.1 million, but raising almost $4 million. Now the only question remaining is when Obsidian’s tribute to classic RPGs will become a reality, considering that the project was delayed beyond its initial release date. What’s clear is that the date is increasingly getting closer, especially for those who originally backed the project. According to Obsidian, contributors at the appropriate pledge tiers will gain beta access on August 18, 2014.
Pillars of Eternity is an tactical iosmetric RPG aiming to combine the best elements of Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. That promise, combined with Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer’s involvement in the project, was enough to turn Pillars of Eternity into the highest funded crowd sourced video game until Torment: Tides of Numenera succeeded it the following year. It’s no wonder than that expectations for the game are incredibly high, although it won’t be until at least Winter 2014 when we’ll get a look at the finished version of the game.
Obsidian will unveil more details about the Pillars of Eternity beta in its next Kickstarter update. An Early Access version of the game is also in the works, although its release date is yet to be revealed.
