Pirates of the Burning Sea Plundered by Portalus

Well, not really plundered. Sony Online Entertainment has decided that Pirates of the Burning Sea just doesn’t fit their current portfolio, and they are dumping the pirate-themed MMO overboard. Thankfully, they are dropping it into the lap of Portalus Games, a company formed from the ashes of the original developer team.

What does this mean for the future of sailing and looting? Not much, actually. SOE is no longer handling the accounts, so you will have to migrate your old account to the new Portalus system before January 31st or your characters will be lost forever in the depths of the ocean. There is also no date on when Portalus plans on re-launching the game and no clear indication of what changes will be made under Portalus. Besides that, information is sparse. We’ll keep you updated as more news rolls in.

Will be very interested in seeing what the future holds. Was a former POTBS player of almost 3 years whose love of certain mechanics was only rivaled by the rage I felt at others. Will be interested to hear if the devs actually understood what went wrong with the game, and what they will do different.

So keep up on the reporting. :)
