Planetside 2 to Have 5-Year Content Update Plan

GDC 2012 has brought with it new information about the MMOFPS Planetside 2. A team of SOE developers spoke about key features, the game‘s pricing model, and a five-year plan for content updates.

SOE showcased the game’s day/night cycle and how the time of day can drastically influence combat, complete with night-vision goggles and weapon-mounted flashlights. While Planetside 2 will launch as as free-to-play title with a cash item shop for cosmetic items and “sidegrade gear,” the dev team was adamant that there would be no “pay-to-win” items. Extensive stat-tracking abilities will chart character performance over time. Hints were dropped that SOE has a five-year-plan for the game, a plan that includes AI enemies and extensive content updates.

SOE says the game still has a lot of bug-fixing and polishing ahead of it, but I’m certainly looking forward to joining the battlefield when Planetside 2 launches.
