Play ‘Game Type’ And Give The Crummy New XBLA Dashboard Your Middle Finger

Indie developers really hate the new Xbox Live dashboard. And with good reason! It’s not only an ad-infused eyesore difficult to navigate unless you have a stupid Kinect, they absolutely buried the Indie Games Marketplace, requiring players to make a ridiculous 16 clicks to find it. So what do you do if you’ve been handed what feels like a deliberate middle finger from microsoft? Why you return the favor, as Indie Devs Mommy’s Best Games has done with their latest game, a hilarious digitized f*ck you back to the new dashboard called ‘Game Type’.

Named after the generic new category under which Microsoft has shunted all marketplace games, ‘Game Type’ features two levels; the first level forces players to navigate a parody of the new dashboard, worming their way through a confusing interface overloaded with obtrusive ads, in order to find the ‘game’. The second level is a side-scrolling shooter in which those ads have come to life and attack a playable character modeled on the generic, hoody-sweatshirt girl used as the icon for XBLA’s ‘Game Type’ button. Brilliant. I downloaded it earlier today and I can confirm it’s both fun and funny, and at only 80 microsoft points, it’s one of the cheapest ways to register your annoyance with the way Microsoft broke XBLA.
