Player Choices in Everquest Next Will Grow Via ‘Butterfly Effect’ (VIDEO)

The developers at Sony Online Entertainment fully expect player choice to expand and mutate stories in Everquest Next in cascading ways, taking on the principle of the “butterfly effect” — small deviations will eventually result in big changes.

That’s what Everquest Director of Franchise Development Dave Georgeson told our James Heaney at SOE Live 2014 this weekend. Player choice is a big part Everquest Next, and Georgeson said that when big events happen in the world (they’re known as “rallying cries”), players will respond and their choices will influence how the story develops. There are lots of little triggers hidden within those events, Georgeson said, and players won’t necessarily know what triggers they’re tripping or how they’ll change things until the effects become known, and start to spiral.

Check out James’ interview with Georgeson above, which talks both Everquest Next and Everquest Next Landmark, and some of the future developments for both titles.
