Players, Including Activision’s Social Media Manager, Report Xbox Live Accounts Hacked
Ars Technica is reporting that some users are having their accounts hacked and that whoever is doing the hacking is then logging into FIFA and purchasing things using Microsoft Points in that game, it seems.
Details as to how the scam works are few and far between, but it seems that while the hacks are limited to just a few people, they’re not isolated. Notably, Activision Social Media Manager Dan Amrich says he is among those who have suffered the hack. He mentioned it in his latest One of Swords podcast — hit this link to give a listen to his experience.
Microsoft responded to Ars Technica’s request for comment by saying that there’s “no evidence that Xbox Live has been compromised,” which I think they meant to be interpreted as “no huge hack has occurred.” Instead, it seems the incursions are pretty small-scale and limited, and Microsoft is locking down affected users’ accounts for 25 days in order to investigate what’s going on.
Meantime, keep an eye on your account and keep an eye out for weird FIFA purchases. If you see any, contact Xbox Live support immediately by calling 1-800-4-My-Xbox. More info is available right here.
