PlayStation 3 Software Sales Up 40% Over 2009
Sales in the gaming industry have been dropping of late, but Sony’s PlayStation 3 software is bucking that trend.
Last night, in EA’s Q1 2011 earnings call, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello said that sales in the “high-definition console market” are up 14% ($1.1 billion) year-on-year, and up 21% when calendar year 2010 is compared to 2009.
Riccitiello continued, stating, “This is driven by the Sony PlayStation 3 which is up sharply on its attractive price point.” He also said that PS3 software sales had grown 40 per cent year-on-year to date, and when comparing the three months to March 31st and the three months to the end of June.
This is great news for Sony, especially with the overall software market dropping year-on-year the past few months. The next big hurdle for Sony is the launch of move, scheduled for next month.
