PlayStation 4′s Camera Will Allow For Voice Commands

Which next-gen console will be better? Game Front gives the definitive opinion with our massive Xbox One vs. Playstation 4 Ultimate Buyer’s Guide.

The listing for the PlayStation 4′s camera declares it allows for “navigational voice commands,” and Polygon says they’ve confirmed this with Sony.

“Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that PlayStation Camera allows for voice recognition and we will look forward to sharing more details in the lead up to the launch of PlayStation 4 on November 29,” said the rep. (That’s the European launch date for the PS4, so no complaining about a goof, please.)

Our question now, and one we are attempting to have answered, is if the voice commands are contingent upon owning the camera or if you can use a PS4-compatible headset to make use of that functionality. As a longtime-Kinect owner I can attest that device is pretty good at filtering out noise, but it’s far from ideal. Being able to use a microphone that isn’t sitting next to your TV or speakers would be a nice option.

The PlayStation Camera will not be bundled with the PS4, and retails for $60.

It looks so….ugly. People have said the design for both Xbox One and PS4 aren’t the best we’ve seen, but I think this takes the cake in my opinion.
