PlayStation Europe’s Jim Ryan Says Sony Doesn’t Need to “Buy” Exclusives
PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan believes Sony’s home grown exclusives are enough to counter Microsoft’s buying power.
Ryan’s sentiments came in the wake of the recent revelation that Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a timed Xbox One exclusive. Addressing the matter Ryan asserted that Sony’s network of first and second party studios would give it the content it needed to keep the PS4 on the top end of sales charts.
“We’ve got a very large and very powerful network of studios on our own, all of whom are working on games that will be fully exclusive to PlayStation, and we feel that this on top of partnering with third parties where it makes sense.” he said, speaking to CVG. “So do we feel the need to go out and buy outright exclusivity? Probably not.”
There’s arguably good reasons for Ryan to feel this way. After all, even while the timed exclusivity of Rise of the Tomb Raider could be seen as a legitimate feather in the Xbox One’s cap, it’s probably unlikely that that one game will be enough to help close the considerable sales gap between the Xbox One and PS4.
