Playstation Network’s ‘Welcome Back’ Freebie Offer Page is Live, but Barely Working

The Playstation Network is back, the Playstation Store is back, and now, finally, Sony has rolled out its free game “Welcome Back” package.

Except it barely works. But enough about that! Free games (supposedly)!

Hit up the Playstation Network and you can go watch your PS3 struggle to work the PSN Store in the new “Welcome Back” tab. There, you can select “Free PS3 Game 1,” then download the “Free PS3 Game 1″ thing, and then choose an actual game to download: a choice of inFamous, LittleBigPlanet, Dead Nation, Super Stardust HD, or WipEout HD.

Back out and download “Free PS3 Game 2″ and you can choose a second title from the five. If you’ve got a PSP, you can also do the same with two PSP games, choosing from Killzone: Liberation, LittleBigPlanet PSP, ModNation Racers PSP and Pursuit Force. All that stuff will be available to Playstation Network users (who signed on before the outage in April) for free until July 3.

We can’t seem to get the Playstation Store to actually cooperate to download any of these things, but certainly once every PS3 owner in the country stops trying to access the store at the same time, things will run more smoothly. Fingers crossed, anyway.

If you want your free stuff, you’ll need to work hard for it.
