Plot Points Galore in New Trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Out of the Tokyo Game Show comes a brand spanking new trailer for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4. And in the general fashion of MGS trailers, it makes almost no sense, but it’s awesome.

The video introduces us to a number of new characters, including Liquid’s private army, the “FROGS.” Yeah, it’s a lame name, but they look to be pretty much a full squad of Ninjas (plus it looks like Raiden may be one of them !?). We also meet a mysterious military scientist who watches over a little girl and Drebin, a “weapons launderer.” There’s also apparently a new enemy in the form of “Big Mama,” who bears more than a passing resemblance to The Boss from MGS3. And is it just me, or does that guy with the mohawk look a lot like Fatman, the bomb specialist from MGS2? I won’t spoil the shocking ending to the trailer, but suffice it to say it starts to tie up a loose end from MGS2.

Dammit, Kojima, why you gotta force me to buy a PS3? And if the rumors are true, I may even have to get one before the year is out.

I think Big Mama is Eva! Kinda like a mother and father thing, Big Boss = father, Eva = mother, to Liquid and Solid. Mehbeh?

Few thoughts on the matter.

Plot seems to be completely mental. Fine, I can accept that, but I hope it’s not going to be a “move 10m then cut-scene” game, which, from the sounds of how much they want to cram in, could be entirely possible. I’m also still having reservations about the game-play too, in that it is beginning to look less and less like hiding will be necessary, when grabbing a gun will do the same thing in less time, which wasn’t always what was needed in the MGS games. It, to me, looks less and less like Tactical Espionage Action and more Tactical Get-In-A-Good-Position-And-Get-A-Rifle Action. Also, Meryl’s hair still looks ridiculous.

Conclusion; still not going to buy a PS3 for this, meaning the only game I’m still only interested in for the console is the new Wipeout due out next year (and not the PSP port, which I think is bloody ridiculous). Yeah, I know, this might sound crazy, but these trailer’s have done jack to boost my interest.

Actually Big momma is eva and they did tell you what happend to her after MGS3, In MGS:PO you find out that when she handed the chinese her fake copy of the philosophers legacy she was fired and they were going to kill her, she fled the country and went to the san heronimo penisula where she meets snake in mgs:po ;P
