Pre-Order Battlefield 3 on Origin, Get a Free Game (UPDATE: No Free Games For You)

UPDATE: One of our readers sent me a tip that this promotion is only for some folks who pre-ordered before August 7. I have confirmed this with Origin support. So, sorry, don’t go pre-ordering BF3 now looking for free stuff.

An Ars Technica scooper has shown us that there is a benefit to pre-ordering Battlefield 3 on Origin aside from beta access, and that is that you get a free game with your purchase. And you get it now, rather than later. Apparently the scooper got this notification in email some time after pre-ordering the game:

As a special thank you for pre-ordering Battlefield 3 early at Origin, we’re offering you a bonus PC digital download game. Please apply the code below at the shopping cart to redeem one PC Digital version of one of our recommended shooter titles: Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2 or Medal of Honor. The price will be reduced to $0 after applying the code at your shopping cart. Hurry—this offer is only good for the month of August, and is exclusive to Origin customers only. See below for more details.

Interesting selection there. Thought most of us who would pre-order Battlefield 3 this far out probably already have those games. But it’s a nice gesture, I guess.

So far battlefield 3 on the pc will have:
- No mod tools
- No real dedicated servers (you can only choose from 1 provider)
- An online pass
-Origin mandatory install
-Origin Tied account
-1 soldier name per game (per origin account) ; so think of a good name because you wont be able to ing change it..are you serious?

Here’s the amazing part:
People will still buy a product that locks you down like this.

If they make me pay to play BF3, I’m getting on a plane straight to Redwood City with a big ass knife.

So far Call of Duty has:
1. $60 Yearly subscription to latest title.
2. Same gameplay each year.

Battlefield 3 has:
1. Prone
2. Jets

@ youallloose

I don’t know where you guys are getting this information about pay to play. If you have a link or two stating that bf3 is going to have that then please share it.
