Prepare Your Bowels: Outlast DLC Murders You May 6
In case you’re not familiar, Whistleblower is a downloadable content pack that serves as both prequel and official ending to the story of Mount Massive Asylum, the hospital that was the sight of grisly experiments and a grislier massacre thanks to the efforts of an evil corporation (check out our review of the original here). In the original title, journalist Miles Upshur receives an email from an unknown person directing him to investigate the asylum, and that message kicks off the events of the game.
Here’s the official description from developer Red Barrels, detailing what you’ll be seeing in Whistleblower. Note that the DLC story stretches from before the events featuring Miles to after the conclusion of the original Outlast:
Whistleblower will let you play as Waylon Park, a software engineer under contract with Murkoff and the man who emailed journalists around the world — including Miles — at the beginning of Outlast. Spending a couple of weeks at Mount Massive, during which he was unable to even talk to his wife and son in Boulder thanks to strict security protocols, Waylon developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients. Identifying with those poor souls fueled Waylon’s anger, and set the stage for his unmasking of Mount Massive’s rotten core.
The press release also mentions that more than 2 million players have picked up the original title on either Playstation 4 or PC.
The new DLC will cost fans $8.99, and will be available Tuesday, May 6, for both PC (via Steam) and PS4.
