Pretty JRPG Child of Light Coming to PC, Too

Remember when Ubisoft either avoided PC altogether or, when it did come to my platform of choice, shackled games to its draconian always-online DRM? Good times! My apologies for slapping you with such heavy-handed sarcasm this early in the morning. Point is, it appears all that is in the past, and Ubisoft is now giving PC plenty of love. The latest surprising example is the gorgeous looking platformer, Child of Light, a JRPG-inspired adventure I assumed was a console exclusive. “Have faith!” Ubisoft appeared to say this morning, revealing Child of Light will be coming to mouse and keyboard, too.

Designed by the creative director of Far Cry 3, Patrick Plourde, Child of Light is meant to look like a living watercolor painting. Based on the trailer below, I’d say Ubisoft Montreal nailed it. Underneath its good looks, it’s a platformer that includes a battle system any Final Fantasy fan will instantly recognize. Here’s the rundown on the storyline from Ubi:

The Black Queen has stolen the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. You play as Aurora, a young princess with a pure heart whose soul is brought to the kingdom of Lemuria. Embark on a quest to recapture the three sources of light, defeat the Black Queen and restore the kingdom of Lemuria.

No release date just yet beyond TBA 2014. For now, enjoy the announcement trailer:
