Prey 2 Countdown Website Surfaces, Or Does It?

A new countdown website called “.alien noire.” surfaced on the Internet a few hours ago, with details to suggest that the website is designed to promote Prey 2. The game had been apparently left for dead since its developers at Human Head Studios were reported to have run into some difficulties with the game’s publisher Bethesda last year. Bethesda denied that this was ever the case, and the existence of the newly launched website would indicate that the game remains in development.

Upon the website’s launch, digging into the website’s source code revealed some interesting details, which have since been removed as of this posting. The meta keywords on the website originally made references to “Prey, Prey2, Prey 2, FPS, Bethesda Softworks, Human Head Studios, Alien Noire.” It just reads “Alien Noire” now.

One element unchanged from the source file is that it ends with “Tommy needs your help,” a possible reference to Prey’s original protagonist.

The countdown is set to run down in 27 days, so we’ll find out then if it’s a hoax or if Bethesda will actually announce the game.

I have been hoping that Prey 2 wasn’t cancelled and this news brings tears of joy. In 27 days, either I will be shattered or reborn.

Colour me skeptical, but I’m not a huge fan of “similar elements, little continuity” sequels the likes Bioshock or Final Fantasy.

I’d personally prefer a sequel similar to the first Prey.
