Nintendo has announced the Level 5′s Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village for the DS will be out in the U.S. February 18, 2008.

Although there’s no word at present when the game will hit Europe, fans can always import it as it’s a region-free DS title.

Level 5, known for Dragon Quest VIII, developed Mysterious Village which is first in a trilogy featuring brain teasers and an over arcing story.

Gamers in the U.S. and Europe might not be familiar with the series, but in Japan Professor Layton enjoys quite a following. Around half a million copies have shipped since February and prompted two sequels.

Famitsu unveiled the third installment recently as Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel, although there is no estimated release date yet. The second game of the trilogy, Professor Layton and the Devil’s Box, releases this week in Japan.
