Project Reality v0.95 Trailer Released

The makers of Project Reality apparently felt that Battlefield 2 wasn’t realistic enough. Yeah, we know1, but that’s how they felt, so they set out to improve, well, everything. Physics, gameplay, visual effects and more were altered so that objects and people in the game would look, sound, and feel more like actual combat. At first we were like “wow” and then we were all “awww” because this is bloody impressive stuff, until you realize how bloody war is in real life. Great job, in other words, but ouch.

Project Reality has ranked several years running in Mod Db’s mod of the year lists, and took the top spot in 2008. Check out the trailer for the coming soon TBD release of v0.95, and you’ll see why:

Thankfully, the game doesn’t also come with economic collapse, PTSD or serious physical injuries, (all of which would make the game significantly more realistic), but watching the trailer for the latest version, you kind of start to wonder if they’re not planning that for future installments. Because seriously, the intensity: They haz it.

You can find out more about the game at the official site. You can also download the previous version, if you want to see what all the fuss is about.

1) seriously, BF2 already feels like it should include a recruiter and a draft card.

That screen shot is years old by the way, both that map and the US Army soldiers look a lot better now.

I’m surprised the author considers default BF2 to be ‘realistic already’. PR has certainly shown that there was vast room for improvement.

PR is modding ArmA2 as well.

I admittedly haven’t fought in an actual war, but I found BF2 to be quite visceral. Not so realistic that the experience couldn’t be improved, but intense nonetheless.

Adding, I took the screen cap from their official images, but I also included the newest trailer, which does show off the improvements.
