Project Spark Closed Beta on Xbox One Next Month
Project Spark, Microsoft’s next-gen mash-up of open sandbox games like Minecraft and play and share experiences like Little Big Planet, is set to enter closed beta on the Xbox One in February.
The news was delivered on the official Project Spark Facebook page, and good news it is for early Xbox One adopters frustrated by the lack of truly next gen games for the console.
What is project spark? As our own Ben Richardson described it after a hands-on at E3 2013: “The only thing that vaguely comes close is Minecraft’s Creative Mode, and with the right person at the helm, Project Spark offers glimpses of a world far beyond Notch’s creation.”
Microsoft and developer Team Dakota want players to build and share their own games and they are giving players all the tools they need to do it with Project Spark. For example, the designers themselves say they have created a working, full feature version of X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter inside Project Spark. Take a look at some of the other player creations that were put together in the ongoing Windows 8 beta:
Team Dakota says that if you already have a Windows 8 beta key, that will give you access to the Xbox One beta. The devs also noted that everyone with a key will be getting a second to share with a friend once the closed beta begins in February. We’ll keep you posted.
