Project Zomboid Devs Burglarized, Game Code Lost

The development of Project Zomboid, the indie zombie game that’s using the Minecraft payment model, has been marred by some unfortunate occurrences. They had accounts frozen by PayPal and Google, pirates overloading their servers, and even a car exploding on their street. Now it’s gotten even worse.

The game is basically being developed in the apartment that two of the coders shared. Over the weekend, that apartment was broken into, and two laptops were among the things stolen. Unfortunately, those laptops contained the code for Project Zomboid. According to a post on the official Project Zomboid site,

Project Zomboid was regularly backed up from machine to machine, but rarely – sadly and infuriatingly – externally. We have lost an awful lot of work.

This is a massive setback to the team, but they aren’t giving up. “Project Zomboid, however, will come back stronger,” says the blog post. We hope that they do, as this was one indie game we really had our eyes on.
