Prominent League of Legends Players Suspended
Professional League of Legends players Alfonso “Mithy” Aguirre Rodriquez and Erlend “Nukeduck” Holm have been suspended from play for six months.
Their suspension was revealed by the game’s creators at Riot in a forum posting on the League of Legends website. According to the company, both players are being suspended for their “toxic behavior in solo queue.” Their specific offenses included things like “In game harassment, verbal abuse and continual use of racial slurs.” Rodriguez notably saw his harassment score rise “to be within the top 1% of all players “ on the Europe West server. Both players had been the subject of “previous punishments.”
Riot’s decision came after an investigation into the two behavior prompted by extensive complaints from other players. Their suspension has, in turn, prompted their team, Ninjas in Pyjamas, to release them from its ranks.
“Ninjas in Pyjamas have released Erlend “NukeDuck” Holm and Alfonso “Mithy” Rodriguez from our roster with immediate effect,” said the team in a statement. “This is as a direct result of the recent suspension they have both received from Riot due to breach of code of conduct which bans them from competition for the rest of 2014. Therefore they are unable to participate in Coke Series in 2014.”
NiP’s managing director Gustav M. Karto would go on to place the blame firmly Rodriguez and Holm’s feet.
“This is a highly regrettable situation that the players can only blame themselves for,” he said “Ninjas in Pyjamas do not condone this kind of behavior and we hope that the players take the time to learn from this incident and come back to competitive play in the future with a refreshed attitude.”
Both Rodriguez and Holm’s had been fined earlier this year for the use of similar offensive language.
