PS3 Doubles Sales from Last Year

Sony’s sales of PS3 hit 2.4 million for the first quarter of 2010, more than twice its sales figures from the same time last year.

According to 1UP.com, the Playstation division at Sony only lost $43 million this quarter – compared to $422 million lost during Q1 2009. Sony actually posted profits of $753 million for the quarter, way up from its $300 million loss last year.

The number of PS3 games sold during this quarter also is way up from last year – 24.8 million compared to 14.8 million – which is part of the reason for Playstation almost getting back in the black this quarter.

PSP software sales also are up, according to the report. Sony moved 8.3 million software packages in 2009 and 9.2 million this year. Meanwhile, sales of the PSP itself are slightly down, from 1.3 million last year to 1.2 million this year.

Yes, it has. However the Wii somehow still beats it.

I just don’t understand it – I mean, by this point, anyone with even a remote interest in casual games has bought a Wii, who the hell is still buying them?
