PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 Gets Delayed

unreal-tournament3.jpg

Rumor had it that Unreal Tournament 3 might not make its expected release date in November. Mark Rein said as much during an IRC chat with Unreal fansite BeyondUnreal when he stated, “All we’ve said is that we’re hoping for a November release, but as you know we value getting it right over getting it right now, so there’s no guarantee of that.” Now, Midway Games has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 version of UT3 has been pushed back until Q1 2008. The PC version is still on track for release next month, however.

But, Mark Rein has come along to spread hope among the PS3 faithful, when he made the following post on the official UT forums:

As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay. Our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007. However, we will only ship it once it’s ready and is the best game we can deliver.

In addition there is some good news as a little extra time in development means that now the PS3 version will have all of the same maps as the PC version whereas we previously expected to ship a fewer maps on console.

The PC version is still on track for November with a downloadable demo to be made available prior to retail release.

Keep your fingers crossed, but don’t hold your breath, PS3 owners.
