PS4 Claims Top Sales Spot for Third Month in a Row

The PS4 has been the bestselling console for three months in a row.

The console’s persistent domination of the console market was revealed yesterday in NPD sales figures that showed positive growth for both the Xbox One and PS4.

“PS4 and Xbox One continue to see success with cumulative sales of the two consoles through the first five month currently totaling more than double that of their predecessors, the PS3 and Xbox 360,”said NPD in a press release.

Even with both consoles selling well however, their overall numbers reveal a significant gap in their total sales. Whereas Microsoft was able to confirm that it’s sold around 5 million Xbox Ones since the console’s launch, Sony recently announced that it’s moved 7 million PS4s since November 2013.

The PS4’s success this past month is particularly notable due to the release of the much anticipated Xbox One exclusive Titanfall. While Titanfall itself was the bestselling piece of U.S. software for the month, its power as a hardware pusher was clearly not enough to lift the Xbox One to the heights Microsoft was likely hoping it would. On the plus side for the industry as a whole, NPD was able to confirm that the PS4 and Xbox One’s sales combined have helped lead to a 78 percent increase in software sales when compared to March 2013.

Infamous: Second Son was probably a big factor in PS4 staying ahead, and it was expert timing to release that so soon after Titanfall and derail any momentum Xbox One could have had.

What really matters, though, is that console sales are still going strong. That can only be a good thing, regardless of allegiance.

Well, I for one would really like the XBone to suffer, until such a time when MS do the right thing and drop the Kinect. This is not because I fantasize about skipping through blooming meadows hand in hand with my true love, Sony Incorporated. It’s just that the MS business plan is, frankly, so cartoonishly malignant. They tempt you with fun stuff like games to install powerful surveillance equipment in your home, to have deeper info on you to sell than any other unscrupulous data miner. And they stick you with the bill for the camera.

It’s weird to me how everyone knows this, and it’s still “The Kinect rules ‘cos you don’t have to press the A button to select your profile!” Because that’s just so damn laborious? I guess when they roll out the Kinect 3.0, with a perfected mind reading functionality, it will be “Yeah, it’s better than ever, cos now you don’t have to move your lips to tell it to switch on, it just knows when you want to play Titanf4ll! And LOL if you think they care about your private thoughts at their Orbital Bombardment Sphere!”

MS need to fail hard, that’s the only way they’ll learn.
