PS4 Launch Spurred PS Vita Sales

MCV is reporting that after the S4 launched last month, PS Vita sales spiked, leaping 68 percent that week and 65 percent the week after. What quantities those percentages represent is unknown to us, however.

The spike is not a huge surprise, given universal remote play — as opposed to being very selective on PS3 — was a highly touted feature for the PS4. Also not a coincidence that Media Molecule’s Tearaway was released on the handheld on Nov. 22, as product manager Ben Law pointed out to MCV.

“The new TV advert went live this week and we’ve already seen amazing feedback from PS4 owners on the Remote Play feature, and the success of Tearaway highlights what [a] great proposition PS Vita is, either as a standalone device or as the perfect companion to PS4.”

I can attest that Phil Hornshaw got the Vita itch shortly after obtaining a PS4 and picked one up about a week later. And I also know that getting a PS4 reminded me that I already owned a Vita, and I’ve been using it a bunch since. I imagine I’m not the only one who had that revelation last month.

Now they need 2 things:

- Fix the loooooong loading time (doubtful)…

- Have more interesting games for it…
