Playstation 4 to Allow HDMI Capture

In a surprise move, one of the recent announcements at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show keynote is that in addition to the voice commands, the PlayStation 4 will allow unencrypted HDMI output for their games. Seems like the target audience for this are streamers and reviewers. With the PlayStation 3, any type of video capture had to involve component cables as it enforced HDCP over HDMI connections. As the PS4 is HDMI only, there was some suspicion that games would not be captured at all. This is another neat way to send game clips to your friends and it goes hand in hand with the built in “Share” button which allows you to upload game clips to Ustream, Facebook, or the PlayStation Network.

It’ll also be great for us because it means we can continue to deliver awesome gameplay videos on the PS4 (like how to instantly skydive in GTA 5)!
