PSA: League Of Legends EU Account Servers Hacked

If you’re a League of Legends player, be warned: accounts have been accessed by unauthorized third parties. The (slightly) good news is that, for now at least, the damage is limited to EU servers.

An update to the LoL community blog explained what happened, and while it’s bad, it isn’t terrifying. Servers in “EU West and EU Nordic & East databases” were breached by unknown hackers. Members in the regions have been emailed. While personal information like name and DOB were gathered, for now the LoL team insists that credit card information has not been breached.

In response, the security hole the hackers exploited has been plugged, and experts have been hired to investigate what happened and assess the full extent of the problem. Affected players will continue to be notified, and all players are urged to change their password as soon as possible.

Finally, there’s a message for fans, one we’ll print here in full:

Brandon and I want to sincerely and personally apologize to you for this situation. We take your privacy and security seriously, and we’re working diligently to improve it for the better.

Thank you,

Marc Merrill
