PSA: No 4-Way Local Multiplayer in Call of Duty: Ghosts (UPDATE)
UPDATE (Nov. 6): An Activision representative has clarified to Game Front that no version of Ghosts, including the PS4 and Xbox One versions, will support more than two local players simultaneously. The rep said that the feature listing on the Xbox Marketplace is a mistake on Microsoft’s part, which will be fixed.
For many people, the best thing about the Call of Duty franchise has been inviting three friends over and getting some four-player local multiplayer action going. This is no longer possible with Call of Duty: Ghosts — at least on current-gen consoles.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the first game in the series since Call of Duty 2 to not support four-player local multiplayer, instead restricting gamers to two-player split screen. Whether or not the Xbox One or Playstation 4 will support four-player local multiplayer is yet to be confirmed. However, the game’s posting on the Xbox marketplace does state “offline players 1-4″ as a feature.
Given the graphical step up of Ghosts versus Black Ops 2, it is a safe bet that technical limitations were the roadblock on the geriatric consoles. We’ve reached out to Activision for comment.
