PSA: The Xbox One Kinect Does Not Have X-Ray Vision

The above Xbox One video created quite the hubbub online, with many thinking the Kinect was exposing a man’s twig and berries while the sensor was displaying the raw feed seen by the camera. Naturally, Microsoft wants everyone to stand down, as it confirms what any rational adult already knows.

Microsoft to IGN:

“First, if you watch the video you will see that what is being represented here is a fold in the denim. There is no tech magic going on here and Kinect cannot see through clothing. Furthermore, the video was an illustration of the various camera views available for the creation of games and apps. This view is only accessible on a development kit and is not viewable on retail consoles.”

…but if Microsoft DID have a Kinect sensor that could see through clothing, my first question wouldn’t be “why is this a feature?” as much as it would be “how much radiation are you shooting at my crotch right now?
