PSP2 Coming Soon? Maybe? No? Yes?

There is some speculation now that a new PSP is on the way. And that it’s coming as soon as this year. MCV spoke with a handful of sources inside major publishers, and two of them said their companies are gearing up for a major marketing push for the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year. The sources speculated that the big money is going around because their companies are preparing for a new Sony handheld.

They also have a third source saying his/her company is working on some games for a future device and is holding off on announcing them until the device owner makes known what the device is. This, then, leads to speculation — by me and everyone else — that if all this is true, and Sony is putting together a new PSP, then E3, which is just a month away, would be the natural place to make the announcement, as it would completely dominate all news out of the expo.

But that’s assuming they are developing a new handheld and are so far into development that it would make folks forget about the PSPgo less than a year after that big release. And those are big assumptions. So file this under hearsay for now.
