QuakeCon Moves to July, Stays in Dallas

For 18 years, one of the best-known LAN parties in the country has taken place in August in Texas – QuakeCon. This year, it’s moving to July.

QuakeCon began as a get-together of like-minded Quake players from the EFNet IRC channel #quake in 1996. John Carmack stopped by the hotel for a surprise visit, and the following year, id began to sponsor the gathering. It’s grown from about 100 attendees in 1996 to over 7,000 last year.

This year, QuakeCon will once again take place in Dallas, TX, but it’ll be a month earlier. Kicking off on Thursday, July 17, QuakeCon will once again let you bring your PC and jump into any number of gaming tournaments. With the new date, Bethesda has already opened up room reservations. If you’re planning on going, you should head over to the post on Bethesda’s blog and check out the info on reserving your hotel rooms.

Game Front’s planning on hitting QuakeCon this year, so if you’re going, be sure to look us up!
