Randy Pitchford Stamps Out Borderlands 3 Rumors

For some stupid reason, the Internet is abalze with rumors that Gearbox is already working on Borderlands 3. Why this is, I have no idea; Borderlands 2 just came out, and they have a fairly robust DLC strategy in the works. Why on earth would they be working on another official game already? Yes, yes, it is indeed true that writer Anthony Burch admitted that he’s sort of kicking around ideas for Borderlands 3, but that’s about as committal as me saying that I’m kicking around ideas for what I’m going to wear next Saturday. And yet, for some reason, the Internet thinks he confirmed Borderlands 2. Enter Randy Pitchford, who apparently receive enough questions on the subject that he felt the need to weigh in on Twitter:

Chill out internet. No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2.

To which we say ‘duh’. Of course, Borderlands 3 will eventually happen. But let’s assume nothing will even start until well after they’ve milked BL2 for everything they can.

Agreed. Yes, Borderlands 3 is practically a given, but anybody who stops to think for a minute would realize that they aren’t ready to start on it yet. The Mechromancer class isn’t out yet, and there are four DLCs planned for release. If the DLC for the first game is any indication, each of these will be pretty sizable, so it’s going to be a while.

Ross, you answered your own question. You want to know why the internet was ablaze with Borderland 3 rumors. Its because the words Borderlands and 3 were mentioned in the same passing sentence and people on the internet did what they always do. Zero in on those two words, take it completely out of context and f*cking run with it.
