If there’s one thing that unites video game protagonists from all historical eras, it’s an insatiable lust for gold. Unearthing buried treasure is a surefire way to line your pockets with copious cash, and avaricious Treasure Hunters seeking to complete the Treasure Hunter Challenge would be wise to check out the our guide, after the break.

Hidden Treasure 1: Rhodes’ Gold

Your first treasure map should come as the result of a random encounter, in which you save a stranger from a group of bandits attacking his wagon. The subsequent maps for the treasure hunter challenge are located inside each successive treasure chest.

Rhodes’ Gold is located at Hanging Rock, north of Armadillo in Cholla Springs. The chest can be found at base of the largest boulder, under a pile of rocks in a narrow area, which can be reached by exploring the north side of Hanging Rock and following the narrow path such exploration reveals.

Hidden Treasure 2: Jackson’s Gold

Located just east of Rio Bravo near the Rio Del Lobo, at a location called “Del Lobo Rock.” Find the gap in the rocks at the top of the cliff indicated on the treasure map, and save your game (in case you fall down to the riverbed). Move through the gap and head to the right, then switch back to the left and hug the cliff face until you can drop down into the shadow of the bulbous outcropping. Consult the map for a depiction of this route. The treasure can be found on small ledge.

Hidden Treasure 3: Calhoun’s Gold

Located int the basement of the old mansion in Tumbleweed. Enter using the back cellar entrance on the west side, and walk straight until you hit the basement wall. The treasure can be found below a mounted bull skull on the wall

Hidden Treasure 4: Tubman’s Gold

Travel towards the San Luis River, starting from the Tree of Skulls. The area is just north of Chuparosa. Proceed until you reach the second stone wall; the treasure is on the river side of it.

Hidden Treasure 5: Brown’s Gold

Located on top of the rock spires in Crooked Toes, in Punta Orgullo just east of Escalera. Proceed past the small cave with the chest and climb to the top of the spire, using a jump->hang->climb manuever.

Hidden Treasure 6: Douglass’ Gold

Located at the Ojo Del Diablo, South of Chuparosa. The treasure is on the west side of the arch.

Hidden Treasure 7: Garrison’s Gold

Found northeast of Agave Viejo. northeast of Roca de Madera. The stool-shaped rock in the first two treasure map illustrations is just off the main road leading northwest from Casa Madrugada, just above the armadillo on the main map. From the stool-shaped rock, look southwest and you should see a path that begins just above some rock spires. Follow it to its end to find Garrison’s Gold.

Hidden Treasure 8: Pickett’s Gold

Located due east of the ranch at Beecher’s Hope. near a large tree split by a lightning strike. The treasure is buried in a gap in the stone fence north of the tree.

Hidden Treasure 9: Stonewall’s Gold

North of Manzanita Post is a small, snow-covered horse path. Follow it until you reach a plateau and then explore the north side of the plateau until you find a cave. The treasure will be inside.

Sorry but this is one of the worst guides I have ever seen. I’m stuck on finding the second treasure and this guide doesn’t help me in the slightest. Why? Because you just tell me everything I know from looking at the map, “Find the gap in the rocks at the top of the cliff” is the part I am stuck on.

Why not give me directions or a few more hints as to where to find it. Its a guide you don’t just say “find it” as that is not helpful at all. This page is just a waste of space sorry to say.

Really easy to use and helpfull had no problems with finding the treasure.

Dude it was easy for me 2 find I just searched the area where the said it would be however a little further south would have been a good clue

@Sulvi
Calm down mate. Given that this guide helped me to find every treasure I got stuck on, it clearly isn’t a waste of space at all. For the record, the second treasure you mention is by far the easiest to find using the in-game map alone… the gap it shows is the one and only gap there is. As for this guides description, it is perfectly accurate.

My only criticism is the last treasure. The guide says the trail is ‘North of Manzanita Post’, which it isn’t. It is in fact far to the North East of that settlement, on top of Nikoti Rock.

Sulvi … ride up to the Campsite, and look for that gap (south of you).

Walk through it – WALK DON’T RUN, there’s a cliff there!

The trick is this: you might think the treasure is at the bottom of that cliff. Well, think again. It’s about HALFWAY down, and well to teh left as you stand in that gap.

From the gap, walk forward and down to the first ledge-like area. Now turn left. Walk along the cliff – you’ll slide down once or twice – until you find a good-sized flat area with some bushes. If you look really carefully, you should see the pile of white rocks that is the treasure.

Once you’ve got it, either try to jump and climb back up to the campsite, or, just find a safe route down the bluff to the riverside.

Congratulations are, hopefully, now in order! :)

yh no im still trying to find the first treasure the in game t map and what he ses just dont go must be me though uv all seemed to find it

Tbrue

On May 25, 2010 at 10:05 am

Daniel,
The in-game map for the first 1 can be a little frustrating. It looks like your supposed to go to a completely different set of rocks that are south west of the hanging rock, when actually they are right at the hanging rock. If you look at the second picture, use the tree as a reference point, and go around the rocks to some bushes, and you will see the pile of rocks right there.

On May 29, 2010 at 7:52 pm

#9 is just sad.. C’mon guys, it has a name.. Nekoti Rock. That’s all you had to say..

sbsw

On June 2, 2010 at 4:57 pm

Only problem I had was the last clue, it should have said to go to nekoti rock, cuz i spent 15 minutes searching around this other plateu i found on the area, I was originally gonna go to nekoti rock, because it seems to be a central theme for finding things

nauseom

On June 5, 2010 at 1:00 am

#7 was made way more difficult than needed to be by the way it was worded. all it had to say was “Go to Roca De Madera, look west, and like the map shows use the river as your guide to find the ledge” if you use your sniper scope, you can actually see the pile of rocks from Roca De Madera

kronpowkid

On June 5, 2010 at 10:13 am

Wow number 9 is the worst the person who did this is a retard there is like 4 different roads you can turn down running down his path and its more of a cliff not a pleteau. Next time you do one of these think of what your doing its called DETAILS.

Tomme

A dead eye aim shotgun blast to the head usually works or try the same thing with a sniper rifle or bolt-action rifle

On July 7, 2010 at 9:38 pm

momma_zooms

On July 8, 2010 at 1:08 am

Jack,

I used the “buffalo” rifle to kill the grizzley bear’s….
with 1 shot.

momma_zooms

On July 8, 2010 at 1:19 am

Treasure #6 it is West of the arch. WAY WEST,it was near “Sidewinder Gulch” and was in the middle or between “Escalara” where a group of “dark rocks” are [look 2 the right] there is one big rock with a carved out spot and in it was a “trunk” you have to walk up it like a winding staircase and up at the top is the treasure BOOYA !!

momma_zooms

On July 8, 2010 at 1:20 am

Pepijn Aarts

On July 9, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Must i dig up the chest with a shovel or somthing?

jdv

On July 9, 2010 at 7:28 pm

I just found #6 and the treasure is pretty much right where the guide says it is. Its a little tricky finding it bc its hidden in a grouping of rocks, you just need to find the trail next to the arch on the west side and youll have no problem. It isnt even close to sidewinder gulch by the way, so dont go looking for it there

This guide ain’t all that bad but he doesn’t really tell you much other then what the maps show you in the game so i just youtube it for a vid with voice overs and they help much better

Caleb

On November 10, 2010 at 11:22 am

#7 is not EAST of Roca de Madera. It IS Roca de Madera. Go there, and use the treasure map to lead you to the treasure. (It’s Southwest-West from the rock, facing the rock to the North)

I found all of them very easy. I think the one I got stuck on the longest was number 7 I believe. They say tree split by lightning, and it fact it’s called broken tree. Other then that, it was fun.

If someone doesn’t find this guide helpful at all they’re complete nuts and need to go back to school. Good job man and thank you.

Wade

On May 30, 2011 at 9:00 pm

@Tbrue Totally agree. I spent a good long time sightseeing for the 1st treasure after having dismissed (the) Hanging Rock rock as not being the rock shown in the picture, the tree not being the tree, the mountains not being the mountains, and the cluster of 4 rocks not being present at a distance from Hanging Rock nevermind all this.

*TIP* When skinning animals, shoot the animal and walk over to the animal to be skinned ON your horse, stop the horse on top of the animal press y to get off your horse, and y again right away, and y again to get back on your horse. Doing this will, pick up the skin and meat or whatever it gives you. It won’t do that long skining cut scene! The animal won’t look skinned but it will be..

I found this guide really easy to use and better than the other websites that I’ve looked at. But yes I have to admit that on some of the treasures I did find the guide to be a bit brief (saying North instead of Northeast, etc) and unhelpful. It would help if you put a picture of where you are talking about next to the instructions or something like that (just an idea of what to do to improve it) so that people like Sulvi will have a better understanding of where to go. My marks out of 10 for this guide are 8/10. :)
