Remedy Announces Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Arcade Mode

Remedy is spreading around some new details about the upcoming Xbox Live downloadable follow-up to Alan Wake. The latest feature to hit Alan Wake’s American Nightmare: Arcade mode.

In addition to its single-player campaign, the game will feature a mode called “Fight Til Dawn,” which has players taking on the role of Wake and fighting of waves of the game’s possessed enemies, the Taken, using a handful of available resources like guns, flares and the game’s signature flashlight.

For those unfamiliar, Taken enemies (who exclusively use melee weapons but can sometimes throw them at you) are imbued with darkness that has to be banished with light before Wake can kill them with more conventional weapons. That means blasting bad guys with your flashlight or flares before taking them out with shotguns — or nail guns and uzis, as the case may be in American Nightmare.

From the sounds of things, you’ll be sprinting around a closed arena that’ll be littered with weapon drops and unlockable weapons caches, as well as the game’s heavily lit “safe havens.” It’ll also include online leaderboards.

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is due out in the middle of the first quarter of 2012.
