Report: Playstation Tablet On the Way
Sony is in everything. They make computers, game consoles, TVs, big-ass speakers to go along with those TVs, cameras, MP3 players, phones and eReaders. What they have not made yet is a tablet thingie. But maybe that’s about to change and do what big companies love to do: do what everyone else is doing.
Engadget published a report today that says Sony does have several tablet in the works and that one of them carries Playstation branding. The tablet, codenamed S1, is said to be a 9.4″ beast running Android 3.0 with full Qriocity integration and loaded up with PS1 games. Naturally, since it has Playstation branding, it’ll likely also do, at least, everything the Xperia Play can do, and so it would be reasonable to assume it will have a relationship with that phone that is not unlike that between the iPhone and iPad.
They also say it has Bravia remote control functionality, allowing you to control Bravia TVs with it, and it also has an infrared port that would let you, I guess, control any other brand of TV, too.
Physically, they say the S1 has a wrap of sorts on the back of it that lets you prop it up a bit if you place it on a table, and apparently it’s also intended to make it easier to hold, but I don’t really understand the physics of the whole situation, and so I’d encourage you to read the full Engadget report for more.
Finally, they say Sony is planning a September launch with a $599 price tag for the wifi-only model.
Remember, of course that none of this is final, and things could drastically change between now and when/if Sony actually announces the thing.
