Report Shows Annual PC Hardware Sales Doubling Console Sales
Anyone who thinks PC gaming is dying might be surprised by this news. The Horizons Hardware report, compiled by the PC Gaming Alliance, shows that the annual shipment volume for PC hardware in 2009 was over double all consoles combined.
The report uses revenues from PCs that shipped with a discrete GPU as their benchmark. These revenues totaled $54.6 billion in 2009, and were based on the sale of 61.5 million PCs that were purchased last year with “gaming in mind.”
The report also estimates that there 212.6 million PC users with a discrete graphics card in their machine.
The report is only available to members of the PC Gaming Alliance, so we aren’t able to check these figures. Still, if they’re anywhere close to being accurate, the PC gaming industry should be alive and well for quite some time to come.
