Resident Evil: Revelations Graphics & Tweaks Guide

Resident Evil 6 was a disappointment for fans of the series, as it veered away from the primal scares that defined the gameplay of its predecessors. Instead of catering to fan expectations, it instead offered explosions, shootouts, and gameplay that was more akin to a Gears of War title than anything befitting a title within the survival-horror horror.

With Resident Evil 6 out of the way, Capcom has found a way to return the series to its horror-filled roots with Resident Evil: Revelations. First released on the Nintendo 3DS, the game has since made its way to the console, and most recently, the PC. The game offers a variety of options, all of which can be configured through the in-game settings.

But first and foremost, here’s what you’ll need to get the game up and running. Note that the requirements are fairly lenient, so older computers should have no problem running the game.

Required:

    • OS:Windows® XP
    • Processor:Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.4Ghz or better, AMD Athlon™ X2 2.8 Ghz or better
    • Memory:2 GB RAM
    • Graphics:NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800GTS or better, ATI Radeon™ HD3850 or better
    • DirectX®:9.0c
    • Hard Drive:8 GB HD space
    • Sound:DirectSound supported with DirectX9.0c or better
    • Other Requirements:Broadband Internet connection

Recommended:

    • OS:Windows Vista® or later
    • Processor:Intel® Core™ 2 Quad 2.7 Ghz or better, AMD Phenom™ II X4 3 Ghz or better
    • Memory:4 GB RAM
    • Graphics:NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560 or better, ATI Radeon™ HD6950 or better
    • DirectX®:9.0c
    • Hard Drive:8 GB HD space
    • Sound:DirectSound supported with DirectX9.0c or better
Graphics Options

Optimal Settings

The game isn’t resource-heavy, but if you’re running the game on a computer that barely meets the minimum requirements, you’ll want lower the game’s Shadow Quality and Texture Quality to something other than High. Likewise, Anti-Aliasing settings should be set to FXAA, which is the lowest available option. However, if your computer meets the recommended requirements, you should have no problem maximizing every setting, as seen in the images above.

Advanced Options: The Config.ini File

Should you choose to manipulate these options manually, you can do so by accessing the config.ini file located in %LOCALAPPDATA%\CAPCOM\RESIDENT EVIL REVELATIONS. There is little point in editing the file as all the options are available in-game, and there are no hidden options to tinker with.

Stuttering Issue Fix

A stuttering problem has been reported by a number of users on the game’s Steam forums. There are a number of possible workarounds to alleviate the issue. Notably, the problem seems to affect users running Crossfire or SLI set ups, so that’s what we’ll target first.

  • First things first, make sure to install the latest drivers for your graphics card. If you’re running an Nvidia card, grab the latest beta drivers here.
  • If you’re running the game on SLI or Crossfire, simply disable one GPU.
  • Remember to disable your anti-virus and any other non-essential processes before starting up the game.

RE.Net Error

If you’re encountering errors while starting the game and loading up RE.net, you’ll need to exit out of the game and use a browser to visit the website ResidentEvil.net. If the site loads up, you can start the game back up and it should have no problem loading up.

Disabling Aim Assist and Mouse Acceleration

These two options are not available in the existing version of the game. They are only available in a public beta of the game’s demo.

Missing Resolutions: 2560×1440, 1440×900

Both resolutions are absent from the retail version of the game. They are currently being tested in beta.

How to Access Beta

If you should like to test the game’s beta and assist Capcom with feedback, you can participate in an open beta for the demo version of the game. Here’s how to do so:
1) From your LIBRARY list, right-click on Revelations Demo and select ‘Properties’
2) Select the BETAS tab.
3) Type rerev in the ‘Enter beta access code’ field and then click CHECK CODE.
4) Now, select “pub_beta – public beta” from the pull-down menu and click CLOSE.
5) Launch Revelations Demo
