Retro-spective: Final Fantasy XIII’s Story Told in 16-bit

A murderous theocratic government, a floating artificial city-world, rebels, monsters… a technocratic government, time travel, limbo, more monsters… if you want to explain the story that has unfolded in the Final Fantasy XIII series thus far, you better set aside a good chunk of time.

Or just let Square Enix do the storytelling for you, and in charming old-school fashion, no less.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is coming soon, and as a refresher course in FF13 lore, Square released the pretty terrific “our story thus far” video above, which simultaneously answers the question: “What would Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 look like in classic 16-bit?”

Push play to see for yourself ahead of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII‘s February 11 launch on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

This is absolutely beautiful.
So much better than that over-budgeted garbage they released.
Great Job.
