Return to D-Day with Close Combat

closecombatMatrix Games, developers and publishers of traditional military wargames for the PC has a new offering of an old scenario. Close Combat – The Longest Day features a revamped version of their previous title Close Combat: Invasion Normandy that aims to expand the scope, scale and available forces beyond the original and offer a few graphical and play upgrades to boot.

The new game also increases the number of tactical scenarios to over 60 maps and introduces a new strategic map. Other enhancements include a redesigned/optimized user interface, updates to help the game run smoothly on modern DirectX systems and a custom scenario builder to extend the game’s life once players tire of the 60 in-built offerings.

World War II games may be overplayed in the FPS genre but sometimes its good to sit back with a nice methodical strategy wargame like the Close Combat titles. Looking over the game even brings back warm memories of the old SSI wargames like Panzer General. Ah.. sweet nostalgia.
