Reversible BioShock Infinite Covers Chosen

You’ll recall how Irrational Games, in response to severe criticism over the generic, frat-approved cover of BioShock infinite, held a contest in which fans could choose an alternate image for a reversible cover? Well, the fans have spoken, and they seriously, no joke, chose the absolute worst cover out of all made available. Here it is:

I don’t think I need to tell you how much this sucks by comparison to the other possibilities. Given the percentage of votes it got – it ‘won’ with 38% of the vote – I’m guessing all the people with taste had their votes split among the other candidates. Just like the California Recall vote in 2003, except there weren’t any good options then. SIGH.

You’re wrong.

On December 24, 2012 at 4:39 pm

I voted for this one. It felt like it was “Bioshock” the most out of any of the choices. Always loved this aspect of the bioshock games.

On December 24, 2012 at 4:54 pm

That is just OMG awful. I really hope they don’t use it. Yes, lets use a 5 year olds art work. I drew better stuff on the inside walls of my mommas belly.
That will scare more people away then bringing them in. Bad cover means bad game. Just saying.

Irrational… what the ?

On December 25, 2012 at 2:33 am

Let us all sincerely hope that the game itself isn’t as s-wordy as the cover…

On December 25, 2012 at 11:49 am

I happen to really like the cover.

On December 25, 2012 at 12:05 pm

Wow, ultra-detached reporting. I guess now the gaming market is becoming more and more retarded games journalism sites can either try and hold the line and try to maintain some semblance of credibility, or they can just hire the retards the market is now based at, like Never coming back! Bye!

To the comments section: This is an alternate cover. It will be on the inside of the actual cover, so you can take it out, flip it over and use it instead. This will not replace the awful cover that was revealed earlier. You can still have your “main character facing the cover with explosions on the back” generic FPS cover.

Some of you people just jump to everything without reading properly. Read people, read. It doesn’t hurt to process some information before forming opinions.

On December 25, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Don’t see how that it is an “alternate” cover makes it any better. It’s still a steaming pile. Which is sad, given the richness of the Bioshock lore that could be used.

On December 25, 2012 at 6:48 pm

I voted for this one as well. I really doubted some people would appreciate this artwork, but then again, I’m extremely happy there is a majority of fans that do have good taste. It’s fine if you’re the type that likes movie posters copied and pasted onto books or game covers instead of a fine crafted and artistic work… actually, no it’s not fine. Ya’ll stupid.

On December 25, 2012 at 8:58 pm

Wow. With the reaction the author and some of the people in the comments have, you’d think this cover personally murdered their entire family.

Also, I address this to both the author and the commentors groussing about it, what exactly do you find so horrible about it? Calling it a piece of trash sounds to me like meaningless complaining because your favorite candidate didn’t win. Kindly voice your actual criticism of the artwork, before implying that those of us with opinions that vary from your own are in someway inferior to you.

I actually like it personally, it reminds me of the covers of some old scifi novels. The only thing that annoys me about it is the way the logo is visually inconsistent with the style.

On December 25, 2012 at 9:08 pm

DrChannington@ Actually, you’re the moron….. Just because someone doesn’t agree with your tastes means it’s there tastes. To imply someone is stupid just because they don’t like what is dog vomit in there eyes, doesn’t mean it’s any less true.
I’ve been around art all my life. I draw, my aunt paints ( or did when she was alive), my grandfather drew. I have friends and roomies that get there stuff in galleries all the time. I personally find this style to be childish in design and concept. Way too simplistic. The dove or whatever it’s called looks sad. realy bad. I had friends back in middle school art that did things 50x better ( in my opinion). It’s an art style seen in the fifties, and earlier. Personally should have left it there.
I don’t call people stupid for liking it or say they have bad taste, just not my taste. Bad art, but not bad taste. But I do call people stupid freekin morons for making fun of others taste that don’t agree with theirs.
Use a little common sense before making stupid comments.

On December 25, 2012 at 9:57 pm

Says the person who insulted the artist of this artwork by describing it as something that could have been done by “a five year old”. Before you try and tell others to behave nicely, maybe you should take a look in the mirror.

On December 25, 2012 at 10:01 pm

I myself thought it fit with the Bioshock theme. That’s just my opinion.

On December 25, 2012 at 11:21 pm

folklore@ That’s fine, don’t have a problem with that. I just personally hate the picture. I can’t agree with you on it. The game is much more indepth and complicated than this simplistic picture. This screams amateur all the way to me. It looks like something you would see in early stage concept art.

DrChannington@ Are you just stupid or do you actually work at it? It does help to actually read what is said before making an fool of yourself. Let me say it slow for you so you might actually understand. I said that I wouldn’t insult ones opinion on what they might like or dislike, didn’t say I would talk down on the actual art piece, as that is my opinion. Cr-p is cra-. Some people may like liver, but I sure don’t and I have no qualms about calling it what I think it tastes like. If you love liver, great, but don’t expect me to say nice things about it.
Do you have it now or will I have to explain it again with smaller words.
As far as the picture goes, it simply looks awkward and amateurish, and I agree, it totally conflicts with the title. I love all sorts of different styles, just not that one.

For someone who was preaching about niceties a second ago, my how offensive and offended you can be. And I always find it funny how quickly people will bring up things like “I’ve been around art all my life. I draw, my aunt paints ( or did when she was alive), my grandfather drew” as if this would somehow validate anything you might say on the internet, or garner some sympathy for your dead aunt (sorry).

Your attitude and tone don’t exactly match up with your preachy words. So, if I like dog vomit in my eyes, as you said, what does that make me in your eyes. You call others with different opinions idiots, you just don’t say the word. Get off your high horse, because I can tell you right now, you have no idea about what it means to be an artist. Your aunt might have, your grandfather too, but not you – who would so quickly call a work by someone obviously with talent – someone with the skill of a five year old.

I’m done wasting my time on you. Call me an idiot again, call me a moron too – I’m going to sit here with my hand out waiting for a *** to fall in it.

On December 26, 2012 at 5:01 am

To DrChannington and TheDog – this isn’t your site to ruin with your childish flame wars. DrChanngington is the originator by calling people retards for disagreeing with him, but TheDog hasn’t done anyone any favours either by taking the bait. I guess the rest of us with more moderate opinions can suck a railroad spike.

I personally don’t particularly like this cover, but it’s a damn site better than the one selected originally and actually has some semblance of character and originality, unlike the ‘Gears of BioSchlock’ crap we were previously in line to receive. It’s certainly better than Ico’s “guy holding his penis” artwork.

On December 26, 2012 at 5:46 am

How sad. I remember seeing the same thing over at, in an article openly mocking everyone who wanted Bioware to “adress” the ME3 ending. That’s when I moved here. But I guess every gaming site is more of a blog these days. Farewell!

I said it once I’ll say it again. Ross Lincoln is the gamefront equivalent of IGN’s Collins Morriarty. Gets on a podium and berates people for not having his same opinion.

This article reads like it was dictated by a small child’s mother as he stomped around in his little footie pajamas throwing a temper tantrum. “Those dummy heads didn’t like what I did so they have a stupid face.

Ross Lincoln again putting the Ass in classy, brought to you by gamefront.

Wow, guys, that’s a lot of anger of a single opinion on a minor issue over a controversy that didn’t even matter. Ross’s opinion obviously isn’t popular, but to call into question his and the entire site’s journalistic integrity? I think you’re taking things a bit far. Apparently you’re calling for a story that would have said, “Here’s the cover picked” and nothing else? On a story such as this one, I think it’s a bit of a stretch to call out any “reporting,” which in this case is posting a picture of the chosen cover. Ross’s discussion here is over what’s basically a nothing issue. It has nothing to do with how he or anyone reports actual information. It’s his opinion on a very simple item, and I think you guys are conflating your ideas of “journalism” with seeing an opinion you don’t like and getting annoyed with it. Reporting the choice of a user poll on the Internet is not a matter of incredible importance.

On December 26, 2012 at 10:10 am

Chimpansie @ No offence, but if you call that a flame war, well you haven’t been around much. I have no problem with people who are civil, but do with those that attack others for unjustifiable reasons. Two comments by two people, neither one being that bad to start with, doesn’t ruin a thread. All I did was stated my opinion and responded to someone being rude. We are all intitled to our opinion without fear of being attacked, not that we can expect that kind of courtesy. Besides, social interaction is one of the basis of our society. If you cant handle that, well I’m sorry. Maybe you shouldn’t go out then. Controversy is always around.
I don’t mean to be rude but this was very mild. You should visit some real controversial threads if you want to see a flame war. I actually didn’t see the other art, so I’m at a disadvantage. If this was the lesser of all the evils, well then, they need to start over and try some new stuff, cause this really does bite.
I tend to agree with the author. A lot of people will, and others won’t. Good heavens, ALL articles will have this result. No one article will have 100% of the community in complete agreement or disagreement. Too many different likes and dislikes out there.
DrChannington @ Who loves ya baby? : )

On December 26, 2012 at 10:24 am

DrChannington@ By the way, my attitude never changed. I didn’t call you anything because of your opinion, but because you felt the need to insult and call others who didn’t agree with you opinion stupid. You might be a great guy or girl for all I know. It was you statement that ticked me off.
And while I may not be remembered for my art, I’ve made enough selling it off and on ( I only do it for fun, not my real job), that I do ok. I paint as well. Made good money off that to. You just have to love what you do. Peace.

On December 26, 2012 at 11:05 am

@the Dog.
Here is a link to the other covers.

On December 26, 2012 at 11:23 am

folklore@ Thx.
I like several more than this, but wasn’t a big fan of any.
I think a nice shot of the city, showing parts floating to let people know what it is, a floating city, Med, distance. with a conflict in the background, although not too far away, with the guy running towards the artist, pulling the girl to a safer location. He’s looking forward while she’s looking back. That would have made a good one, I think. But who knows.
Oh well, as long as the games good I can actually live with just about anything.

On December 26, 2012 at 12:01 pm

I just think its awesome how after the hissy fit Ross threw after the original cover decision, he now has to suffer with the alt cover that he hates the most. Congrats Ross, this is karma at its best. Man, what a good Christmas.

On December 26, 2012 at 12:38 pm

@ Phil

“Well, the fans have spoken, and they seriously, no joke, chose the absolute worst cover out of all made available.

There is a valid point to the fact it is an opinion. However, when the writer of the article is already calling into question the “taste” of anyone who picked something other than what he thought it should be it lost all credibility. He could have easily written this article with a bit of tact and still gotten his opinion across without sounding like an ass. How hard would it have been to write about prefering one to the other without demeaning someone else’s opinion. Ross here is showing what is wrong with a lot of journalism today, opinion trumps fact and is reported as such.

I first started reading Gamefront because unlike sites like IGN it was a site that when I clicked on an article I would actually get news, and the ones that were opinion pieces were just that articles written as an opinion. If Ross wanted to chime in with an opinion on why people were wrong to choose this cover maybe he should have written a second post and said just that. Instead he chimed in unnecessarily on an article that he didn’t need to. Had it been done in a second post I doubt there would be much of a response or at least not as much.

From my experience with this site I only click on articles written by Ross when it looks like a legitimate news story. Unfortunately it has now become necessary for me to try and avoid his articles all together since I can’t trust him to even report on something simple like an alternate cover being chosen for a game without being insulted for my/someone’s different opinion.

I was certain you were overreacting until I saw them here:

Design 6 was infinitely better.

On December 26, 2012 at 9:29 pm

I love you too, bro. Isn’t that how guys deal with things? Be friends, get drunk, get angry, get punched in the face, and then be friends again. It’s a vicious cycle, you *********. lol :P

btw, my first post wasn’t really serious, but after you drew my attention to your “five year old” comment, that kind of ticked me off as well.

On December 27, 2012 at 11:41 am

Chihuly does alright too. Lol

On December 27, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Kinda like the Mass Effect 3 ending, lots of people on the internet said it sucks but irl people enjoyed it or were indifferent about it.

On December 28, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Ah i would have prefered the one with the big jugs!
