Richard Garriott’s Akalabeth Joins GOG as Free Game

Retro gaming fans can now pick up the RPG classic Akalabeth for free at GOG.

The game, Richard Garriott’s first, joined GOG’s catalog earlier this week as an early Christmas gift on December 24th. Rather than charging for it however, the digital distribution site is offering it to registered customers as a free download. It will be the fourth game from Richard Garriott to be added to the site, joining other titles like Ultima IV, Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire and Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams.

Originally released in 1980, Akalabeth follows the efforts of a lone hero to prove their worth to the enigmatic Lord British. This quest primarily involves killing a series of increasingly powerful monsters while avoiding hazards such as starvation and death. Gamers interested in giving the game a try can grab it here.
