RIFT is Now Free-to-Play

RIFT has joined the free-to-play legions after years as a subscription-based game. The announcement was made by Trion Worlds today, who are determined to keep the game fair for all players, even those who choose not to pay for it.

There are no restrictions on levels or even content, and all the best items must be earned within the game itself, through normal gameplay, and not purchased through an in-game store.

Players who choose to continue subscribing to the game will receive daily log-in rewards, weekly chests, daily summons, and special bonuses to currency, mount speed, favor & prestige, and store discounts—among many other things.

Additionally, players who spend money on the game or subscribe will receive loyalty rewards for the time they spend in RIFT.

Kicking off the game’s free-to-play transition is the release of the Empyreal Assault update, which includes a host of content available to everyone, including a new zone called Dendrome, a ten-player raid, a new Chronicle, and open-world raid bosses.
