Riot Games Bans Pro-Gamers in League of Legends For Negative Attitude
League of Legends‘ developers, Riot Games are cleaning up their community amidst strong criticism from both the press and gamers alike that the game’s community fosters toxic attitudes in gaming, especially towards women and ‘casual’ or newer gamers.
To this end, Riot Games has issued two permanent bans for Ilyas Hartsema, who goes by “mous enVision” and Damien Lorthios, aAa Linak. Both players, hailing from Europe, were found to have violated the so-called “Summoner’s Code” which enforces standards of good behavior and sportsmanship.
According to Riot, both players had received dozens of reports for in-game harassment, abuse, and poor behavior. Both players received repeated punishments in the past. The players possessed multiple accounts, all of which have also been banned over repeated violations.
As a result of the bans, neither player will be eligible to participate in the League of Legends Championship Series this year, effectively putting an end to their pro-gaming careers.
The bans follow in the wake of another recent high-profile ban which saw the banning of IWillDominate, a player from Team Dignitas who ended up dominating only himself with his bad behavior. Additionally, the studio intends to implement a new competitive system to restructure the way in which players compete online.
