Riot Games Bans Pro-Gamers in League of Legends For Negative Attitude

League of Legends‘┬ádevelopers, Riot Games are cleaning up their community amidst strong criticism from both the press and gamers alike that the game’s community fosters toxic attitudes in gaming, especially towards women and ‘casual’ or newer gamers.

To this end, Riot Games has issued two permanent bans for Ilyas Hartsema, who goes by “mous enVision” and Damien Lorthios, aAa Linak. Both players, hailing from Europe, were found to have violated the so-called “Summoner’s Code” which enforces standards of good behavior and sportsmanship.

According to Riot, both players had received dozens of reports for in-game harassment, abuse, and poor behavior. Both players received repeated punishments in the past. The players possessed multiple accounts, all of which have also been banned over repeated violations.

As a result of the bans, neither player will be eligible to participate in the League of Legends Championship Series this year, effectively putting an end to their pro-gaming careers.

The bans follow in the wake of another recent high-profile ban which saw the banning of IWillDominate, a player from Team Dignitas who ended up dominating only himself with his bad behavior. Additionally, the studio intends to implement a new competitive system to restructure the way in which players compete online.

Ummm how should i put this WoW is still going on strong. Bioware is also still going strong, sure Star Wars isn’t doing that great but Bioware itself won’t fall not to sure about LoL granted I’ve never played it so can’t judge myself. As for the article it’s good to see that the developers are taking out these guys, unlike blizzard Swifty who caused multiple servers to crash only to be given his account back because of players crying at the developers it’s good to see Riot take care of other players too.

Hey Underlaw , Blizzard and Bioware are still here , and still making money. Good job on your predictions :)

Krajewski – BioWare have lost all creative credibility as well as their founding members. They’ve essentially been assimilated into EA. So while they’re still making money, it’s at the expense of everything they were respected for – at a time when they were already making money.

A fall doesn’t always mean bankruptcy – see Lance Armstrong. BioWare’s fall was a fall from grace, one they will never recover from.

I think it’s cool that they’re finally cracking down on this crap. Not only does the general attitude of the people in the Dotalike community discourage new players, it’s gotten to the point where most have come to believe that acting like an entitled is just part of the overall experience.

This is a good thing but its not enough, they need to ban all the players out there playing the game with high numbers of harassment. Dota is one of the only online games i have played where every game you are in has someone ing about how bad you suck or calling you out for every single mistake you make and its not league of legends fault its just how the community has always been since the birth of Dota.

I think the uniquely toxic community has a lot to do with the nature of the game. Games of Lol can last anywhere up to an hour: that is a hefty investment of one’s free time. In addition, unlike other multiplayer games, there are massive penalties for leaving games and no mechanism by which to fill empty player slots. CoD players who are frustrated with their team can simply leave the game, that is not so with LoL. Consequently, if one player has a tryhard mentality whilst his teammates don’t really care one way or the other, tempers are bound to flare. I try to be constructive, but particularly when they retort “who cares, it’s just a game” having invested 40 mins of my time, I’ve been guilty of losing my my cool with other players.
The solution: always play with a full party of friends :D

I have been playing LoL for a while and have always been either an honorable opponent or a teamwork honored ally. I have received negative behavior several times but I have always tried to stick to the positive side!
I have recently received a warning from Riot about my negative in game behavior and by looking further into it I realized that my honors were reset and that my in game chat was restricted.
I was very surprised, thought it was either a joke or a mistake and opened case #5672295 with their support system. I was letting their support team knowing that I failed to locate violations of the summoner’s code in my Tribunal case with #421282 and I was asking to be told which parts of the code I have violated where.
I got pointed to the summoner’s code, to the case webpage, to anything but what I was asking for… Cristobal (one of their support team) decided to close the case without providing satisfactory answers!!!
I am very disappointed with LoL in several respects of the game and it’s support. I think they are not doing a good job respecting and treating players the proper way…. I am planning to write and upload a review soon… Got screenshots and copies of everything needed to prove my words…. Good luck if you are still playing the game!!!
