Rockstar “Spazzed Like Babies” Over Grand Theft Scratchy
Among the many other parodies in The Simpsons Game, Grand Theft Scratchy was a true headliner. But, unfortunately, some apparent crying from Rockstar caused EA to yank that particular level; or, more accurately, rename it to the much more lame “Mob Rules.” While we haven’t heard much more about it since that was announced, a few of the writers for the game recently appeared on Game Head to discuss their new game and Rockstar’s reaction to Grand Theft Scratchy.
“The people who make Grand Theft Auto, they spazzed out like little babies,” one of the writers said. He went on to knock Grand Theft Auto’s “lame attempts at parody” which typically amount to “putty the words ‘sixty nine’ in wherever they can find it [because] that’s their idea of a joke.”
Harsh words from one game developer to another, but really – was anyone going to mistakenly buy The Simpsons Game thinking that it was the next Grand Theft Auto? For a game like GTA that has had so many homages to classic movies, you’d think Rockstar could take a joke.
