Rockstar Won’t Publish Team Bondi’s Next Project
Remember that investigation of Team Bondi that we told you about last week? It looks like Rockstar isn’t all that happy about the working conditions at Team Bondi either.
According to GI.biz, Team Bondi is “trying to find another publisher for their next title, but the relationship with Rockstar has been badly damaged – Brendan treats L.A. Noire like a success due to his vision but I think Rockstar are the ones who saved the project. They continued to sink money into LA Noire, and their marketing was fantastic. Without their continued support, Team Bondi would have gone under several years ago.”
The article also says that Rockstar was looking at taking over Team Bondi and making it a subsidiary of their Rockstar Sydney studio, but the source says, “the more they worked with Team Bondi management, the more they came to understand that this was a terrible idea.”
The employees who contributed to the article are united in declaring Team Bondi’s management, specifically Brendan McNamara, as the main problem. Said one developer who had worked with him at another studio, “When Brendan came on board, it became clear that he was a huge bully with no talent, vision or management skill. But he really knew how to intimidate”
It’s unclear what Team Bondi will do next, or how this expose will affect business practices there. However, without Rockstar as a publisher, it could be questionable whether they’ll even have a next game. We’ll have to wait and see how it shakes out.
