Rollercoaster Tycoon Coming to the Big Screen (This Is Actually True)
I think there might just be a video game adaptation in the works that could very well be the first truly good movies based on a game. I’m talking, of course, about Sony Animation’s Rollercoaster Tycoon project, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog.
Sony Animation’s Rollercoaster Tycoon project.
Rollercoaster Tycoon: THE MOTION PICTURE.
OK, that sounds pretty ridiculous, right? It’s at least as ridiculous as making a movie based on an a them park ride, and we all know that didn’t work out very well for Disney. Oh, wait, those Pirates of the Caribbean movies made more than $2 billion in theaters.
OK, so a good movie can come from anything, even, potentially, a game about building an amusement park that contains no narrative. Let’s take a look at the talent on this live-action/CGI hybrid flick. Heat Vision says: “Harald Zwart is spearheading the development of the big-screen adaptation as a possible directing project and will executive produce.” That’s Harald Zwart, director of such films as Agent Cody Banks and One Night at McCool’s and Pink Panther 2 and the upcoming Karate Kid remake. Alright, well that choice doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Let’s see what else we’ve got.
The film will be written by, Jay Sherick and David Ronn, a writing duo who penned or co-penned, uh, National Security, I Spy, Guess Who and Norbit. OK, so this movie is going to be terrible. Fingers crossed that at least Ronn and Sherick mostly use material from RC3, since that’s the best one.
