RUMOR: Bethesda Announcing Elder Scrolls MMO In May

Devin Connors at Tom’s Hardware is reporting an exclusive that, if it pans out, should blow the minds of RPG fans everywhere. According to anonymous sources, Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios are planning to release an MMORPG set in the Elder Scrolls universe, and they’ll be making an official announcement in May.

Details of the alleged, and if true, totally mind blowing, MMO are scant at present, but what has been revealed sounds ambitious. The MMO will apparently be set 1,000 prior to Skyrim, which Tom’s rightly notes is during the universe’s Second Era. There will be a total of 3 factions players can choose from, each represented by a different beast. Not much else is known.

Tom’s has not revealed the name of the initial tipster, but they’re saying they consulted with two additional sources to verify. Furthermore, Connors’ reporting is always very solid. Even if Bethesda has offered “no comment”, this is almost certainly true, and that means we’ll probably be looking at a sneak peak at E3 2012. We will be keeping an eye out for more news, and evading any potential arrows to the knee.

Great, a company notorious for making buggy games and with no experience whatsoever in multiplayer dabling will make a MMORPG. That will turn out into something interesting…

I love the Elder Scrolls series.

But I really fear an MMO, unless they are going to do a full on sandbox. That’s the only way to do an Elder Scrolls world. To simply do a TOR style themepark would betray the series and what it stands for.

These kind of things are incredibly hard to do. But if bethesda were to actually try, I will storm heaven with prayers to the 8 Divines (remember, no 9 divines yet!) for its success.

@MadMax, you are the retarted one. Bethesda was the publisher for Hunter : The Demon’s Forge. Not the DEVELOPER.
