RUMOR: Crystal Dynamics Working on Soul Reaver Reboot

Word on the street, which I can definitely see from my window, is that Crystal Dynamics is working on bringing The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver into the realm of modern gaming.

The tip comes from VG247, which reports that it has it on “good authority” that Crystal Dynamics means to bring back the Legacy of Kain series in some respect — whether that means Kain himself will take the lead (as in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Defiance) or Raziel, the chinless vampire who took over as protagonist of the Soul Reaver series.

By the sounds of things, Crystal Dynamics is looking at announcing the reboot sometime this year — possibly at E3.

For those too young to remember or who were unfortunate enough to miss them, The Legacy of Kain games first sprung up on the Playstation, and the last titles in the series popped up nearly a decade ago. The titles largely mix action-adventure gameplay with a vampire-centric horror theme. There were also block puzzles. It was pretty great; or at least Soul Reaver, the title I got most into, was.

We’ll keep our ears to the ground and bring you more details as they become available.

This would be AWESOME if done well, Legacy Of Cain’s games had the best story ever presented in a Video Game.

WOO Legacy of Kain ftw… they had best have the original voice actors though, I mean you really don’t get more awesome than Simon Templeman.
