Rumor: New Plasmids for BioShock
One intrepid poster over at the 2K forums has uncovered a string a text that may hint at new plasmids for BioShock. In a couple of the many .ini files that can be found after installing the game, there are apparently several lines of text that include the words “Downloadable content announcement” and “PlasmidPack1.” The text also lists four new gene tonics: “Machine Buster,” “Vending Expert,” “Sonic Boom,” and “EVE Saver.” There’s also text indicating several plasmids that are locked: “AirBlastTwo,” “EVE Saver,” Vending Expert,” “Machine Bully,” “Revival,” “Life Drain,” and ElectricBoltZero.” There’s also a whole section of code devoted to an entirely unused “Ecology” class of gene tonics. Basically, it looks like all this stuff is available in the game, but cannot be accessed. The poster theorizes that 2K may begin charging people to unlock this new content, and that may be the reason why they haven’t released an editor for the game (since that would allow people to unlock the bonus content themselves). We shall have to wait and see, but some new plasmids would be pretty cool.
