Rumor: New Xbox Live in the Works?

Microsoft’s US careers site has a job posting up that has people talking about the possibility of an addition to or new iteration of Xbox Live.

The job position is for a program manager to work in the Xbox department. That in itself is unexceptional. However the wording of the post has gamers intrigued.

“Want to be involved in the next release of Xbox? Join the server-backed games team, part of the Xbox Live team that’s responsible for creating a completely new way for mainstream audiences to enjoy the Xbox and Live,” says the ad.

“We’re building the games, the console interface and logic, and the server support for a totally new Live experience. Both the games and the dashboard experience will be deeply paired with dynamic server support to create a compelling, fresh scenario each time.

“We are looking for a passionate games producer to help implement our first generation games that will run in this new environment.”

There’s nothing more specific in the job posting as of yet, but you bet the industry and gamers alike will be watching.

Considering the problems that have plagued Xbox Live since the end of December, a new version or revamp of the old one would be highly appropriate.

I hope they make one with free multiplayer. That would help them survive the PS3.

I’m not sure if they need a new setup or not. A new setup = new bugs. They just need to fix what they have right now. I’m curious to see what happens.

Something free that is more advertisement-centric, perhaps?

Either way, they need to get Live completely fixed very, very soon.
